I've been wanting to wait for zui 3.7/4.0 in order to see if there was substantial improvement (from 3.5.389) but my patience if running out...
(So this will be my first custom ROM)

Anyone has particular recommendations?(apart from reading the "newbie" threads which I did read) or tips or maybe warnings?

I have a few doubts about the treble/non-treble/A-only/A-B partition thing, and the baseband thing, and ofc musts (4G(+), BT, OTA..) Can a good soul help me ;-) ?

I have also went to XDA ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...rom-bootleggersrom-2-1-stable-z2plus-t3759073 ) but could not possibly read the massive 150-pages thread :-/

Welcome @Michael#le_owi, and sorry for my english.

I have z2 plus since january 2017 and I have tried much roms, including officials and customs, so in my opinion, custom roms are much better than zui.
Actually I'm on official xtended: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-zuk-z2/development/rom-project-xtended-t3781995
Is best rom ever I've tried. Is non treble and old tree rom.
There are many threads on zukfans for help you to unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery and flash custom roms so, if you aren't advanced user and if you want to flash a custom rom, is good idea to flash custom roms on a non daily smartphone for take experience.
Otherwise good luck buddy.

Rom dead by developer.
I have the regret to tell you that you are wrong.
Bootleggers is still actively supported, see telegram groups.
Is it true that at the time being, maintainer of bootleggers for zuk z2 amog787 is transitioning to another device (still bootleggers), leaving the zuk z2 temporarily without maintainer. I spoke with developer ElDainosor who didn't say that development for z2 is forsaken. We can assume a dev will take amog787's place eventually
